A current universal/MAX remote can replace multiple older accessories, but the migration path should start from the documented old model or receiver generation—not case shape or button count.
Chamberlain Group marks the 973LM as no longer available in its Security+ 390 MHz compatibility table and states that available MAX accessories replace discontinued models in this family. The current 893MAX supports Security+ 390 MHz and LiftMaster openers made since January 1993.

Confirm the opener/receiver generation before ordering. A replacement relationship does not mean every unrelated external receiver or gate system uses the same programming path.
Chamberlain Group explicitly identifies 892LT and 894LT as replacements for the 974LM. The 894LT preserves a four-button form factor and independently programmable buttons.

Genie says the ACSCTG-UNIV2 can replace discontinued ACSCTG Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 remotes and lists older back-label identifiers such as B8QACSCT, B8Q315390T and TBSTG Type1.
